ISO 20000 is a standard created by the International Organization for Standardization with the aim of using it for certification. This new standard will replace the BS 15000 standard.
ISO 20000 is divided into two parts:
1) ISO / IEC 20000-1: 2011. This part contains the requirements for conformance to the standard and thus qualify for certification..
2) ISO / IEC 20000-2: 2012. This part contains the code of good practice, and therefore it is not possible to obtain certification in this part
Any organization can opt to get certified in the ISO 20000 standard by implementing a management system of IT services. This system must first meet all the requirements set out in the full document that collects the ISO 20000 standard.
Once the organization is sure to meet all the requirements, it can apply to a certification company to perform an audit of its Management System and verify that it meets ISO 20000. If so this certification body shall issue the certificate in favour of the organization.
